Foster a Cat. Change a Life.
Opening your home as a foster gives a cat the time, safety, and stability they need to heal and prepare for a permanent home. Fostering is one of the most meaningful ways to help animals in need, and it’s something ordinary people do extraordinarily well.
What it means to foster
When you foster with Friends of Murphy, you provide temporary care in your home for a cat who needs extra support. This may include kittens too young for adoption, cats recovering from medical treatment, or cats who simply need a calm environment to decompress.
Fosters are the bridge between rescue and adoption. Without foster homes, rescue work simply can’t happen.
What we provide
Friends of Murphy supports foster families every step of the way. Support may include:
Veterinary care and medical guidance
Food, litter, and essential supplies when possible
Ongoing communication and check-ins
Coordination of adoption when your foster is ready
You’re never expected to do this alone. Fostering is a team effort.
What we ask of you
Fostering looks different for every household, but in general we ask that fosters can:
Provide a safe, indoor space
Offer daily care, attention, and observation
Communicate with us about health or behavior changes
Follow basic care guidelines we provide
Some foster placements last a few weeks, others a bit longer. We’ll always discuss expectations and timelines in advance.
Is fostering right for you?
You may be a great foster if you:
Want to help but can’t commit to adoption long-term
Have space to separate animals if needed
Work from home or have a flexible schedule
Are patient, compassionate, and open to learning
Even fostering once can make a lasting difference.
Interested in fostering?
If you’re interested in fostering or would like to learn more, we’d love to hear from you. There’s no pressure and no obligation, just a conversation to see if fostering might be a good fit.
